Job Summary

Under general supervision of the Center Director, the janitor is responsible for cleaning the center facilities, including hallways, classrooms, lunchrooms, offices, and other rooms. The janitor ensures that all areas are clean, neat, and organized. This position is considered security-sensitive and requires a pre-employment background check and random drug screenings. Some travel within the seven-county catchment area may be required.


Essential Functions

Janitorial Duties

  1. Vacuum, sweep, and mop all floors as needed
  2. Clean and disinfect restrooms throughout the shift
  3. Dust window sills, baseboards, cabinets, counters, etc.
  4. Clean windows, mirrors, and glass surfaces
  5. Remove indoor and outdoor trash and debris
  6. Maintain clean sidewalks and entrances
  7. Clean door mats and keep areas free of debris
  8. Sanitize and deodorize facilities continuously
  9. Maintain building sanitation for staff and children
  10. Wash, dry, fold, and store laundry
  11. Perform other cleaning duties as needed

Stocking Duties

  1. Restock paper products daily
  2. Refill soap and sanitizer dispensers
  3. Replace trash bags in all receptacles
  4. Notify Center Director about supply needs

Non-Essential Functions

Performs other job-related duties as assigned.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of SEARPDC policies
  • Ability to operate cleaning equipment
  • Ability to safely clean up bodily fluids
  • Ability to read and follow instructions
  • Ability to work independently and follow through with tasks
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and follow health/safety protocols

Minimum Qualifications

  1. High school diploma or GED
  2. Minimum of one year in janitorial or related work
  3. Valid driver’s license, insurable, and proof of insurance
  4. Must pass background check, DHR-required screenings (ABI and CA/N), and drug/alcohol screening

Physical Demands

This position is physical in nature and includes standing, walking, bending, twisting, lifting up to 65 lbs, and occasional climbing. Exposure to cleaning chemicals and changing weather conditions may occur. Employee must be able to communicate with staff, children, and families.


Work Environment

Normal safety precautions required. Work areas are properly lighted, heated, and ventilated, typical of offices and classrooms.
